"Sincerity is the most important thing when it comes to creating art" - The story of Peter and Vilizar from Uke Duo
Uke Duo is a unique string duo that immediately grabs the attention and heart of everyone who hears them. Peter and Vilizar use ukulele and guitar to create their own music and recreate music from around the world in an exciting way. We recently learned that they are working on something very challenging and inspiring at the same time - a tribute to the work of The Beatles. We invited Peter and Vilizar to talk about their plans and their love of music.
When did start playing music and how did you decide to start?
Peter: I started singing as an amateur from a very young age, I didn't go to lessons, at 12 I started with the piano, shortly after that came the guitar and at the beginning of high school - the ukulele. These activities of mine connected with each other, each tool is interesting to me and made me want to explore others. My parents, who are fans of good music, have also given me a lot and have been by my side.
Vilizar: I was playing first grade when I received a guitar gift from ours.
What is music to you? What did she teach you?
Peter: For me, music is above all sharing, communication. That's why I think that sincerity is the most important thing when it comes to creating art. If you have something to say and want to do it, finding the means is a matter of perseverance and exercise. Music taught me to be honest with myself, to appreciate communication, it gave me a field to express the inexpressible so far.
Vilizar: For me, music is a constant pursuit of something beautiful.
Who is your favorite artist or the one who has touched you the most? An album? A song?
Peter: I personally change my musical idols all my life, this is quite normal. These were Paul McCartney, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie, Roger Waters, Mel Torme, Joao Gilberto, bands like Floyd, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers and so on and so forth. If I have to talk about the present moment - Album: Rough and rowdy ways (Bob Dylan, 2020), track - Girl From The North Country, again by Dylan. He is a real inspiration.
Vilizar: I don't have a favorite artist, but I usually understand that someone really touched me when through his music I seem to meet him personally and his whole world. It is always felt when the music is written with all the energy of the personality and sincerely.
What are you working on right now? New project, single, album, other?
Peter: We are currently preparing something very special and responsible - a ukulele tribute to the Beatles' work. This music is the basis of many, many others after it, so we approach it carefully and with love.
Vilizar: Until recently, with a team of great people, I organized Uke Fest - an event dedicated entirely to one of my favorite instruments - the ukulele. Now, however, I have focused entirely on learning the essence of music. I study at NMA. I believe that after certain knowledge the creative process becomes much more exciting.
What inspires your creativity?
Peter: The desire to share. To communicate truly, both with each other and with the audience. We are excited about the art of music and we want to be a part of it, to use its expressiveness and we hope to make a small contribution to its development.
Vilizar: The creativity of others. And life in general. For me, it is also an art and it also has its geniuses.
What is most important to you when choosing a recording studio?
Peter: It's important to work with a team that you speak the same language with. With people who have ideas, but do not impose them, but are able to offer and delicately develop the musical idea.
Vilizar: It is important to know that the person behind the counter knows what he is doing and will invest something of himself. The technique is also important, of course.
How can working in a recording studio upgrade a song or an album?
Peter: The studio is a place where new ideas are always born. Communication with the team and between the musicians, concentrated to the maximum, gives prerequisites for the creation of a unique creative environment that stimulates the creative process.
Vilizar: The recordings in the studio are an intimate moment for every artist, because he stays alone with his work and will seal it, unadulterated by the emotions on stage.
Which phase of the recording and post-production is the most key to achieving a good end result?
Peter: For me, the mix is key. With a different mix, the same piece can get a radically different shade, so it is important to work with a coherent artistic concept that determines the demand for the work of musicians, tracking engineers and sound engineers.
Vilizar: The atmosphere during the recording itself is important, but it's also nice to color the post-production in a meaningful way. Each stage can be key.
What is the most memorable event you had in a recording studio?
Peter: While recording our debut album, we had unforgettable moments - from eating pizza in the hallway, to recording the percussion we see for the first time, to listening to the tracks from the other room behind closed doors to judge the balance of high, medium and low. frequencies.
Vilizar: I remember the moment when the owner of the studio where we recorded our album with Pepi decided that his uncle's dance would be very suitable for the South American wind instrument - kena. It was a really good idea, but the coolest thing is to feel the enthusiasm and excitement of everyone in the studio.

What services did you use at Urban House Studio and what are your impressions?
Peter: At Urban House we recorded a session for our Teen Station friends. The atmosphere was hellishly cozy, friendly and the audio production was very pleasant.
Vilizar: In this great studio we were lucky enough to record for Purple Session - a project of Teen Station.
What did you like most about Urban House Studio and why would you recommend it?
Peter: Everything was on a level - from the interior, through working with the team to post-production. We recommend!
Vilizar: The technique looks very level. And the guys are pretty kind and smiling. It is obvious that they work with pleasure.
What are your musical goals and dreams?
Peter: We want to develop as musicians, to stay active and awake, from then on the other will come only.
Vilizar: Specific goals are constantly emerging, but my dream is to live in music.
